When it comes to extraordinary friendships, this mailman and a 14-year-old dog in Boulder, Colorado, defy all odds.
Usually, when you think of a mailman visiting a house with a canine friend you imagine the dog howling loudly until he leaves. But, for Jeff Kramer and Tashi, this is anything but the case. Tashi, a black lab, has faithfully gone outside and greeted the local mailman with a happy wagging tail everyday mail day for the past few years.
That was until his joints grew increasingly stiff. Now, in order to go up and down the porch steps, Tashi’s owners have to carry him in their arms. So, when Kramer, who also used to have an elderly dog, learned the news about Tashi, he had a brilliant idea.
Before Kramer’s dog Odie passed away a few years ago, he made his friend a wooden ramp to help him travel up and down the porch. And, fortunately for Tashi, Kramer still had all of the lumber leftover from the ramp in his backyard for Odie.
So, on the mailman’s most recent day off, Kramer headed over to Tashi’s house and built him his own ramp. And, his owners couldn’t be more thankful.
“We were literally carrying him up and down the stairs,” Tashi’s owner, Karen Dimetrosky told the Daily Camera. “And he weighs about 70 pounds.”
“It’s incredible, I can’t imagine not having the ramp now. It’s the only way he gets in and out.”
