There’s no denying the popularity and fun of Pokemon go for kids and grown ups alike! The resurgence of Pokemon Go hasn’t only been a huge success for the Pokemon company, it’s also helping struggling business owners see an uptick like they’ve never seen before!
For this tiny ice cream shop in Anacortes, Washington Pokemon Go was just the blessing it needed to stay afloat in troubled times.
Mad Hatter’s Ice Cream found itself in the middle of a number of popular Pokestops in the area, attracting dozens of hungry Poketrainers to its front door.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect it to end up like this,” says owner Gary Dear. “The Pokey light shines down on me!”
The Navy veteran shuttered his small business after health problems and limited foot traffic caused Mad Hatter’s Ice Cream to lose revenue faster than a melting cone in the middle of summer.
When Dear reopened his shop the end of June, things were looking up but still small. One week later, when Pokemon Go was released, he saw an incredible change.
The sudden rise in patrons caused Dear, who does not own a computer and just bought his first smartphone, to see what all the fuss was about. When he learned it was Pokemon, he took full advantage!
Mad Hatter’s now boasts a bright sign reading “Welcome Pokemon Trainers” and is revamping its menu to contain Pokemon-inspired flavors of ice cream.
